Mürren

If you’re traveling around Switzerland and looking for a place that feels like you’ve stepped straight into a postcard

I highly recommend heading up to Mürren — a small mountain village with views so spectacular you’ll find yourself thinking, “Wait… is this actually real?” 😂🏔️

And the journey doesn’t start with some fancy luxury train. It starts at a rather ordinary little station…

🚉 Interlaken West → Interlaken Ost

Our journey began at Interlaken West.

At first, it didn’t feel like we were about to experience anything extraordinary. We simply grabbed our luggage and hopped on the train like any other traveler.

But as soon as the train left the station…

The scenery gradually changed from town → green meadows → mountains. 🏔️

Before we knew it, we arrived at Interlaken Ost.

This station is an important transfer point for heading into the mountains, as from here we continued by train toward Lauterbrunnen.

🚠 Lauterbrunnen → Grütschalp

From Lauterbrunnen, we took the Lauterbrunnen–Grütschalp cable car.

As we stepped into the cable car, I remember thinking,

“Okay… we’re getting pretty high now.”

But as the cable car slowly left the station…

The scenery below began to shrink.

Houses turned into tiny dots.
Roads became thin little lines.
And the valley slowly opened up beneath us.

That’s when we started to understand…

Why people are willing to take several different modes of transport just to get here.

🚆 Grütschalp → Mürren

From Grütschalp, we continued on a small mountain train to Mürren.

And this little train was just too cute! 🥹

It didn’t feel like a regular intercity train at all.

It felt more like a toy train taking us into a magical mountain village.

Along the way, we were treated to beautiful mountain views, getting more and more excited with every turn.

And finally…

🎉 Mürren!

We had finally arrived at the village we’d been looking forward to seeing.

🏡 Mürren — A Car-Free Mountain Village

The first thing we noticed when we arrived in Mürren was…

“Wow… it’s REALLY quiet!”

No cars rushing around.
No honking horns.
No tall buildings.

Just charming wooden houses scattered along the mountainside.

Everywhere we walked, there was another breathtaking mountain view waiting for us.

And if the weather was clear…

We could see the magnificent Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau towering right in front of us. 🏔️🏔️🏔️

It’s the kind of view where, even after taking a hundred photos…

you still find yourself thinking,

“The real thing is so much more beautiful than the pictures.”

🏔️ Mürren — A Little Village in the Heart of the Alps

Mürren is a small mountain village perched on a terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland, at an altitude of around 1,650 meters above sea level.

One of the things that makes Mürren so special is that it is car-free, creating a peaceful atmosphere and preserving the authentic charm of a traditional Alpine village.

The village has a long history, with its roots going back to the Walser people, who migrated and settled in the Alpine regions hundreds of years ago. The traditional wooden houses scattered along the mountainside remain one of Mürren’s most distinctive features today.

As tourism in Switzerland began to grow in the 19th century, Mürren gradually became known among travelers, particularly British visitors. Over time, it developed into a popular destination for those looking to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Swiss Alps.

And of course, one of the biggest highlights is the spectacular view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, which can be seen from the village itself. 🏔️✨

Walking along the quiet little streets, breathing in the crisp mountain air, and having those enormous peaks right in front of you…

It’s enough to make you feel like you’ve stepped right into a Swiss postcard. 🇨🇭❤️
